Sesto Matan (Gataka and Sesto Sento)

Sesto Sento is one of my all times favorite projects, always bringing something different to the full on psychedelic scene. Tracks like Alchemystica, Spank to Tor, Run on Green, Sneaky Sneaky and Primi TB will always be on my heart (and on my DJ sets). Now Sesto Matan, possibly the man with best DJ skills I ever saw playing, the mind behind Gataka and one of the talented guys of the Sesto Sento project, is about to release his 3rd Gataka album and took the time to share his opinions and thoughts with us. Enjoy!

fullonline: Who is "Matan Kadosh", where are you from and what is your musical background? Sesto Matan DJ Set

Sesto Matan: Im from the north of Israel city called Afula, 22 years old and growing, heheh Big love for music sleeping and food heheh and my girlfriend, of course, hehe

fullonline: Why you choose the names Gataka and Sesto Sento to your Projects?

Sesto Matan: Sesto Sento was the advice of a friend, it's from the Portuguese "Sixth Sense", but we fixed it to sound more 'Spanglish', you know this way it's easier to remember. Gataka was an idea of a friend of mine, after we see the movie. The movie name is written differently, we changed the name to look nicer.

fullonline: Are you married and/or have kids?

Sesto Matan: Married not yet, for sure I will like to get married even if that sometimes scares me, hehe. Kids for sure, for me it is one of the meanings of life.

fullonline: Can you keep a comfortable lifestyle working only as a psychedelic artist or a second job is needed?

Sesto Matan: Surely much more than comfortable lifestyle, but again it depends how much you are successful in the trance world and who is the people behind you.

fullonline: What is on your CD Player right now?

Sesto Matan: Gataka - How to create a Monster

fullonline: How do you see the differences between your projects?

Sesto Matan: As I see the difference is that Gataka is less melodic and more powerful & commercial most of the time and Sesto is more groovy, melodic and psychedelic. Of course, sometimes I combine between the 2. Sesto Sento - The Inner Light

fullonline: Which one of your own music do you like the most? Does it have a special meaning to you?

Sesto Matan: The track I like the most from all times is Sesto Sento - Sneaky Sneaky and from Gataka its How to create a Monster.

fullonline: What other music style do you listen to?

Sesto Matan: I always liked Bob Marley, he have some great feeling that make you wanna seat in the sun and chill out all day, heheh... As well as Pink Floyd, that for me was and always will be the best musicians. Also Led Zeppelin and some Israeli singer

fullonline: What Psytrance Artists would you like to work with?

Sesto Matan: Well, I always liked to work with GMS, Infected, Simon Postford, but Im pretty open to work with anyone that I feel can get out something interesting of it and have a good vibe as a person.

fullonline: Is there any equipment you think can help you produce better music?

Sesto Matan: I think Virus C is a great synth that cant really be replaced by vst's, and some compressors and fainlizer can be good for the sound side of the story, but must important is to keep upgrade your mind, hehehe Sesto Sento

fullonline: Do you prefer to play at parties at any specific time?

Sesto Matan: Well, in every country is at a different time that I will prefer to play, but must of the time I will like to play like 1 hour or 30 min before the sun come up is always a good time and is always nice to welcome the sunrise with some nice morning tune, but basically morning is my favorite time.

fullonline: How do you choose the samples of your tracks? What is your favorite one?

Sesto Matan: Most of the time it is from moves, but sometimes is also from sample CDs. You just pick the one you like that fits in the track story and have a good meaning. It can also be some person you record. It depends where and when My favorite sample from my tracks is from my new CD on a song that I made with Aquatica Deeper Level, a sample that say:

Universe is a puzzle life is a problem to be solved.

I also like the samples on the beginning of this track they are very meaningful as well.

Gataka - In Trance We Trust

fullonline: What about the third Gataka album In Trance We Trust? Should we expect a harder album like the previous Gataka releases or something more melodic, with Sestos influences?

Sesto Matan: I can definitely say that the album is much more melodic, but still has the harder parts in some of team. This album is the result of 15 months of massive work on the smallest details, influenced by all the places Ive been, all the people I meet and work with, and of course that Sesto is one of this influences sources as person and as musicians.

fullonline: How it is to work with two of the most established labels around, Phonokol and Com.Pact Records?

Sesto Matan: Well, for Phonokol I can say it is always a pleasure to work with such professional and legendary label as Phonokol, that was one of the first label ever who spread and release trance music since old days Com.pact is a second home for me, I can trust it on any subject, its the family that we been with since the first steps. Im proud to represent both labels all over the world and glad to be part of team!

fullonline: What are your future releases, and what are the labels you're currently working with? Should we expect a third Sesto Sento album?

Sesto Sento - Remixer

fullonline: What do you think about people sharing music through mp3 instead of buying it?

Sesto Matan: What I can say about it is that for sure theres a good point and a bad point for every thing, and also for this one. Its destroying the sales and affecting the artist fee, but is also have big publicity power because that way is spread to much more large amount of people. My opinion is that if you already download music the minimum you can do is buy the CD if you like it.

fullonline: How do you make your Live Acts? What equipment do you use in your Live Acts?

Sesto Matan: For now I use my lap top Sony Vaio, sound card of echo cold indigo, 12 cancel mixer, Nordlead 2 or 3 and sh 101 or Nova v station when possible. Using the Live Ableton as the sequencer that's about all. We always try combining some stuff here and there, but this is the basic stuff. For the future Id like to add some drummer or guitarist, that can bee nice. Usually the Live combines unreleased and released tracks; it depends on the time and places. Now before my new album surely most of my Live Act is unreleased. After the release it will take some time until I can play more unreleased tracks on it, but I always keep some space for Live or special edits.

fullonline: You prefer to play a DJ set or a Live Act? Why?

Sesto Matan: It changes from time to time, used to be DJ Set, but now I prefer Live because I enjoy playing my new music the most. However, in a DJ Set you have the control to change guided by the crowds reaction which is always good. Sesto Matan - Gataka Live

fullonline: In your DJ sets you usually play tracks from which other artists?

Sesto Matan: I always enjoyed playing tracks from - GMS, Shanti, Aquatica, Astrix, Infected and Sub6. Lately Im really enjoying playing Oforia, Space Cat and Xerox & Illumination.

fullonline: What makes a good party? You think decoration is important?

Sesto Matan: I think that for having a really killer party all of this is very important, but for me the most important is good music because for me if the music is good I can enjoy, doesnt matter who is dancing near me, but if the music is bad nothing will help hehehe

fullonline: What do you think people should do to make a better scene? Any visions about the future? More commercial? Underground? Bigger scene? The scene will loose some of its elements (deco, contact with nature, etc)? Some new elements will appear? New musical influences?

Sesto Matan: Uhmm, I think all you said will happen, but in different places. I think trance already became much more commercial and Im happy for it, because is got developed and is still more psychedelic than most of the music.
And if you really love Psychedelic Trance you can always find some around or go back in time and get some. I hope it will get more and more commercial, but also will always have the psychedelic underground events. For now most of places where Trance started are always developing more and more, so it is hard for me to believe it will get more underground, but its still possible.
I think its becoming bigger and is still getting bigger because theres a lot of places like Argentina, Chili and places like these that just started to have it, who knows where is next? I believe much more countries will know it soon or later, hopefully warm countries, there the trance fits best, hehehe.
About the elements I think is hard to know, but every place is different, but trance party is basically for nature and I dont think it will get lost so fast, maybe in some specific places or in some cold winter as alternative, but I believe that if we have the condition we will always prefer trance outside More elements hard to say trance already pretty much mixed all into it, but who knows what the future is really cooking for us.

fullonline: How long does it take for you to make a new track, from the ideas and inspirations to the dance floor? Any hint for a person who is starting making psytrance?

Sesto Matan: It is always different, sometimes I can make the biggest hit in 2 days and sometimes is can take a month or even 2, always depends on the muse and personal setsosion My advice for a young producer, if you really wanna do it and succeed on it then give all yourself to it, live it, eat it, sleep it, breath it Like everything in life you really want, I think.

fullonline: What is your favorite psychoactive molecule?

Sesto Matan: Most of the times I enjoy using just alcohol I like it is can give you loss of your lines which can be good some times. Sesto Sento - The Bright Side

fullonline: We all know that all kind of weird stuff happen at psychedelic gatherings. Can you tell us something different/funny that you saw or happened to you in a party?

Sesto Matan: A lot of funny and weird, even dangerous stuff happened to if is a police come in a party with the guns out kicking all the peoples ass like they love to do Or fighting between drug dealers, or some girl who was so high on drugs that almost fucked with the speakers, thinking that they were her lover or something Or even a girl got naked on stage, hehehe Yes, trance can be crazy some times, hehehe, but thats what I love on it: it is unexpected.

fullonline: Any last comment, message and/or promotional link?

Sesto Matan: "If you go in the way must of the people dont go, you will see what must of the people dont see."

fullonline: Thank you very much for this interview, keep making music!
Respect!
