Psynina

Nina K. is the woman behind Psynina, a psychedelic act that is releasing fresh music this year. This new act is adding a new boost to the so called "dark psy" scene, introducing new elements and approaches to the party night time.

Throughout my conversations with her it became evident that Nina is an emotive person and also is comprehensive and open to new ideas, I think her music show the same characteristics. In this interview she talks about her next releases, future plans, music sharing, the role of women in the psytrance scene and much more. Hope you all enjoy it as much as I did.

fullonline: Who is "Psynina", why you choose that name, where you are from and what is your musical background?

Psynina: I am Nina, 26-years old and from Germany. Originally I am from Munich but I moved to Hamburg to study there.
Why that Artist name is quite simply explained because of my own name. It is short, exact and good to remember I think.

Psynina

fullonline: Can you keep a comfortable lifestyle working only as a psychedelic artist or a second job is needed?

Psynina: First of all I make music to free my soul and to make people enjoy at home listening to my tracks and dreaming on festivals (if they are played :-) )
I don't have any lifestyle from working as artist and I work on sundays in a cafe to earn some extra cash.

fullonline: What is on your CD Player right now?

Psynina: VA - Pyrogenetic, VA - Digital Oracle, VA - Stereo Activity

fullonline: What Psytrance Artists would you like to work with?

Psynina: I did one track together with Elec3 which will be very special and killer-fast. I am excited until people can listen to it. Furthermore I am on tracks together with Barak (from Mexiko), Brain Damage (Israel), Backspace (Israel) and Atomic Pulse (Israel). I like to work with other artists together because first of all you can improve your sound and learn from others. But the more interesting thing in working together is, that you get the feeling from individuals and
their sensitive behavior in music and then you learn more about a person than ever you thought.
In future I would like to work with artist from different styles so there will come out some special tracks.

fullonline: What equipment you use to make your music? Is there any equipment you think can help you produce better music?

Psynina: I work a lot with software-base instruments and effects but I also use hardware like Access Virus C and Hartmann Neuron VS.
The Clavia Nord Lead is a must and that is the reason why I save money to buy this one soon. I think some old and vintage synthesizer could be interesting for me to buy additionally.

fullonline: Do you prefer to play at parties at any specific time?

Psynina: During the last months I work on my live- and DJ-Set and I see myself in the dark night like 2 or 3 AM or in the early morning like 6 or 7 AM.

fullonline: How do you choose the samples of your tracks? What is your favorite one?

Psynina: Normally I choose sample which express the mood of the track or of myself in connection the track I am working on. Sometimes samples do a good job in breaks or after intros so spoken samples with effected delays or reverbs are one of my basic elements in a track. It is the salt in a production. I speak about my tracks because I also know a lot of psytracks out there where any spoken sample would destroy the track. Consequently it depends on the artist and each track itself.

fullonline: Your track "Stop that killing" was one of the best of the debut compilation Psyinjection from PsyTropic records. I liked the samples in German. Are you planning to release more tracks with samples in German? Why not use English? Why not put the track name in German too?

Psynina: Thanks a lot for this kind words. I am not in the position to say what is good or bad. My only wish to any listener who doesn't know me is, that one should give a chance to listen.
As I said before, Samples are very important to my tracks and it is proven that spoken waves are stimulating the listener's brain more than "normal" waves
in music. And that was what I recognized myself. When I was dancing on a big festival with a fantastic PA and some spoken samples came in breaks or together with some baseline it pushes myself more forward or into the human trance. I use German samples because I am German.
Please do not understand this wrong - it is no national thing or such crap - it is only I like my language and I don't see any need in choosing english samples that don't kick me. At last the track must kick myself and even for foreign listeners it can be interesting to listen to other languages in psytrance.

fullonline: What are your future releases, and what are the labels you're currently working with?

Psynina: At the moment I work a lot together with Thomas from PsyTropic Records. This label gave me uncomplicated and straight support and furthermore PsyTropic has the spirit and energy I like personally.
So I released two tracks in the last two compilations and am going to release another in the upcoming third one "Supra Sphere". The release on Yellow Sunshine Records was a license of the "stop that killing" -track what really surprised me and I became really happy.
The last weeks I got more and more out of my own dark room to get in contacts with the outer world :-) I had some very special connection to Exposure Productions in Greece and its Labelhead Michael. We had some good chats and we will work together in future as well.
Another appearance of "Between Spheres" got released on the Dtect Magazine of the Trance-Shop.
The magazine is sold together with a 10-track CD where my track is on position 6.

fullonline: You are part of the PsyTropic Records crew. Can you give us infos,
links, scheduled releases?

Psynina: PsyTropic Records - http://www.PsyTropic-Records.com
PsyLinks - http://www.PsyLinks.com (Another project of PsyTropic - for free adding of homepages more than 1000 Psyhomepages are listed there and shown by a fair system)

fullonline: Your new track "Between Spheres" is opening the new Psytropic compilation "Pyrogenetic". How do you feel about that?

Psynina: This is a extraordinary honor to me and I am glad to release in general on this compilation. It was important to me to show improvement in music and sounding.

fullonline: What do you think about people sharing music through mp3 instead of buying it?

Psynina: In my opinion it is a fact of our nowadays future to share digital music in Mp3 format. I also don't see a problem in it because like everything in our matrix - there is a bless and a curse. It is a bless to the listeners who can listen costless to his favorites artists and music and it is a curse for label to release new compilations or albums without any profit.
I think most labels only want to come to the cash-flow point of zero - and this is really hard in these times, I think.
And the most schizophrenic part on this whole issue is that most of the listeners don't hear the difference between a Mp3 tune and a CD-tune. It has much more surrounding, different layers, in the front, in the back and it is more saturated and full punching. The Mp3 tune is NOTHING against this sound-enjoyment. And every buyer of real releases understands what I mean.
At last I want to say that I also want to have the cool CD in my hands and read the pages on the booklet and to collect Original releases in my shelves. Take a look at the Pyrogenetic release - it is in soft varnish and a photo print paper-booklet. This should be honored !

fullonline: Any plan to release a debut album?

Psynina: Yes I have this plans and I think it will be realized this year.
I am working in my dark small cellar room where I have just finished about 6 full length tracks. I also remixing some interesting artist-tracks - but this is all
secret. Pshhhh

fullonline: You think decoration is important? What makes a good party?

Psynina: In my opinion decoration on parties is really important. On the ceiling on the floors and on the walls. I love the creativity in painting and fluro-drawings. You can see the patience and passion in those pictures and thats what I like. Additionally I like it during the dancing to be inspired by different colors and faces or appearances of paintings. My respect also counts to the artists who make those incredible patterns of wool-lines at indoor parties.

fullonline: The psyscene has few women DJing. How do you feel about that? Do you think that being a woman makes things different for you?

Psynina

Psynina: I think it will be more and more that women get interested in working on the computer or with hardware synthesizers or with CD-Players in DJing but it is still really rare. I don't really know why it is that why - so I guess it is because of the technical issues or borders.
But I learned a lot of female artists known in other music styles who also started to make music because they have another expression in their musical feeling and arrangement in tracks for example.
The female emotion is the other part of our known Yin-Yang existence.
The hard thing as female producer or DJane is that you get much more attention than the other 95% of artist who are male-gender. They look exactly what you do and how you did it and they also don' t hesitate to tell you some misfits in your work. For me personally it is okay to get known because this is the only chance to get improved in sound and arranging. To get respect I think I must work much more than some other male-artist. :-)

fullonline: There are some woman producing and singing in our psyscene. Any plan to
start singing in your own tracks? What do you think about it?

Psynina: I will not sing in my or in other tracks - that is definitely sure. But this don't mean that I don't like singing in Psytrance music. I really like it as far as it
is from professionals. It can work perfectly !

fullonline: Do you often receive "romantic" invitations from other artists or fans?

Psynina: Not yet. If anybody want to email me, he/she/it should feel free to forward some message to Psy_Nina@hotmail.de
I will answer any message or question. :-)

fullonline: What is your favorite psychoactive molecule?

Psynina: In no particular order :-D

- Fresh cold air
- Darkness (night, dark rooms)
- Wodka Red Bull
- Loud Psymusic

fullonline: Any last comment, message and/or promotional link?

Psynina: If you love Psymusic, accept all of its forms and please support your own music with buying original releases and have some cool CD in your hand - no shabby sounding burned CD-R.

fullonline: Thank you!
Respect!
