Prosper

Prosper is a music producer concerned about the quality and freshness of his music. He released his debut album a couple of years ago, and on the following years he was absorbing positive influences, and his sounds evolved as we can see on his releases on different labels. His second album was just released by Exposure Productions, and what a refreshing release! Mixing influences from other genres of electronic music, specially electro, the guy managed to deliver something new. Here you'll read Prosper's opinions on different and interesting subjects, including his favorite track from the album and his upcoming releases.

Prosper - When the City Sleeps

fullonline: Who is "Prosper", where you are from and what is your musical background? Why do you choose this name to the project?

Nikola Vujnovic = Prosper Prosper: Hi, I'm Nikola Vujnovic, 23 years old, also known as Prosper. I'm from Belgrade in Serbia. My music background is as long as I was 9 years old. I use to play guitar, finished elementary music school, and at year 1998/99 has been involved in electronic music.

fullonline: Are you married and/or have kids?

Prosper: Thanks God, I'm still not married, and don't have kids. ;) One day I will be for sure, but still have time for madness!

fullonline: Can you keep a comfortable lifestyle working only as a psychedelic artist or a second job is needed?

Prosper: When I count all jobs about trance music that means, play DJ sets, Live sets, releasing music and other jobs I can afford nice money, but still no to be comfortable. I have other jobs to have comfortable life.

fullonline: What is on your CD Player right now?

Prosper: At this moment I'm listening some Greek music. Don't understand what they talk, just know that remembers me on holidays in Greece. I'm crazy about that country, only nice memories. But these days I'm listening a lot of progressive tunes.

fullonline: Which one of your own music do you like the most? Does it have a special meaning to you?

Prosper: Hard question! From album one of my favorite is Europe, but I don't know what exact is my favorite track. Have some tracks that I like a lot and some I don't like so much...

fullonline: What other music style do you listen to?

Prosper: Usually I like to listen some music that don't take my brain to think a lot about it. Like a lot r'n'b music, a lot of ambient stuff... All in all some music that don't bother me... Don't care a lot about it...

fullonline: What Psytrance artists would you like to work with?

Prosper: I just made track with Wizzy Noise and I'm very happy about it. I also work with Brain Damage, System Nipel, Molecular... Now going to make a remix for Elec3 that is also my favorite project, also Triptych. And I would like to make something with Dado. This guy impresses me.

fullonline: Is there any equipment you think can help you produce better music?

Prosper: I have very basic studio. PC, RME Multiface soundcard, Yamaha monitors and some hardver effect processors. Now I'm going to take some mixer, analog/digital converters and finalizers. Want to improve my studio as soon is possible. It's may be a lot for trance production, but I like wide and deep production.

fullonline: Do you prefer to play at parties at any specific time?

Prosper: Depends on the mood. Sometimes night time and sometimes morning. And I prefer one day parties.

fullonline: You released just released your second album "Prosper - When the City Sleeps" through the Greek based label Exposure Productions. What do you think about your home label?

Prosper - When the City Sleeps Prosper: I think it's a good label that's releasing very famous and high ranked names. Since the album is fresh released, still don't have many bookings, that means that I need better promotion from the label, but I think it comes with time and think that good music always find its place in the world.

fullonline: The album "Prosper - When the City Sleeps" brought some fresh air to the full on scene, and is receiving good reviews all around the world. The album is very different from your previous releases, with a lot of electro influences. What inspired you to produce the album?

Prosper: I got inspiration from many kinds of music. Since I'm not limited at only one kind of music, I tried to make a fusion of few kinds of music - electro, progressive, trance, psytrance and more... I got a lot of support from my friends from Wizzy Noise that you can also feel in my music. The whole point is to break the limits and make something different. I'm not saying that it's totally unique, but for sure very fresh and different.

fullonline: What is your relationship with all other labels in which you released tracks? How do you choose the label you want to submit your track?

Prosper: I like to release for labels that releasing quality music and that respect my work. I must say very good words about Turbo Trance Records, and new Japanese label Heart of Trance. I like to cooperate with them. Of course, my home label Exposure. I don't make music for labels or for selling. I make music that I like, and if some label also like, that is even better. The point is that I don't like to make music for selling.

fullonline: What are your future releases, and what are the labels you're currently working with?

Prosper: The last signed contract is for Duch Fektive Records and for compilation called Unfold mixed by John 00 Fleming for track "Highly Flammable". Also there is an upcoming release "Accelerator 4" from Turbo Trance Records with the track "Crystal Falls", and "Thinking About You" for Liquid and Solid Records. Also I got a request to make a remix for "Triptych RMX's". That is what is currently attractive.

fullonline: Tell us about the psychedelic trance scene in your homeland Serbia.

Prosper: Unfortunately, the scene in Serbia going down and down. Parties have less and less audience. Don't know what is exact reason, but we will see soon what is going to happen.

fullonline: What do you think makes a good remix? How would you describe a remix? Should we expect a remix from you in the future?

Prosper: That means to envelop old track in new clothes. To add new ideas, new glow... May be to tell the story with a different ending. That depends mostly from the track. I made a rmx on System Nipel - Dream Vision that I'm waiting to release after them, Triptych - Bokoboko, Brain Damage - Example of the 90's, and Elec3 - Ultra Violet.

fullonline: What do you think about people sharing music through mp3 instead of buying it?

Prosper - Electro Grooves Prosper: From one side, I think that is the thing that is destroying the scene, and from other side give to people very easy way to get music. But I prefer the time of vinyls, and no mp3's.

fullonline: You don't have a personal website, instead you use Myspace as your webpage, and this is being done by some psytrance artists. What do you think about it? On www.myspace.com/prospermusic we can find a lot of information about you. Do you have plans to create a personal a website?

Prosper: Since I have a promoting team in Serbia with my friends called STS Music, I have a website of this organization www.stsmusic.org where you can find many details about me. I know it is not a personal webpage, but for now it can help. In close future I'm going to make my personal webpage, and I will announce that on the Isratrance forum for sure. Myspace is a good service that has many visitors, and the good thing is that everything is very connected and simple. For example, that somebody don't know personal web address of somebody its very easy to find him on Myspace. That's the whole science about myspace and webpages.

fullonline: Also at www.myspace.com/prospermusic I listened to some new and unreleased tracks from you, including remixes and collaborations. Do you think it is a good promotion and way to test the new tracks? You got feedback on these tracks?

Prosper: Yes, of course. It is good promotion, and the point is that is very simple to check and get some feedback from people.

fullonline: How do you prepare your Live Acts? What you usually change in each different Live Act?

Prosper: I prefer to make a good story. I don't care a lot about released and unreleased stuff. Mostly I'm changing effects and arrangements in Live tracks. In Live, after notebook, I use many software automations, midi keyboards and Nordlead for some Live leads.

fullonline: You prefer to play a DJ set or a Live Act? Why?

Prosper: DJ set. It's more flexible. And it opens fewer possibilities for some technical errors. As simple as that...

fullonline: In your DJ sets you usually play tracks from which other artists? What makes a good DJ?

Prosper: With my tracks I like to play tracks from Elec3, Wizzy Noise, Domestic, Dado, Joti, Silicon Sound, Antidote, Sub6, B&W;, Shanti, sometimes some pure trance artists that I find in sets of Paul Van Dyk, Armin Van Buuren like some trance rmx's of Way Out West, Mark Norman, Juno Reactor... For me is very important good technique and reading the dance floor... When u make all that good, you have good DJ set.

fullonline: What makes a good party? You think decoration is important?

Prosper: For me good sound system and the place are the most important. I like very specific kind of decorations. I like it to be 3D and not full colour. I like it when is simple, and colored with only one colour or two... I very like video projections. I'm more cyber child then forest child ;).

fullonline: What do you think people should do to make a better scene? Any visions about the future?

Prosper: It's very strange. During in some countries trance going down, in some countries like Brasil and Japan it is going up and up. People can help by buying original cds and support trance music industry. That is the core of everything. I think that now is the time to the scene get some changes. Very soon we will see what is gonna happen. I see that Israeli artists are getting more and more electro influences, and that is good.

fullonline: How long does it take for you to make a new track, from the ideas and inspirations to the dance floor? Any hint for a person who is starting making psytrance?

Prosper: I think that 24 hours of effective work is enough. Of course, nobody is making music 24 hours per day, haha... That means I need around 7 days to finish the tune. Hint for new producers is to add some new influences in trance music.

fullonline: What is your favorite psychoactive molecule?

Prosper: Take only beer and whisky. Nothing else, never. Many people think I'm crazy cause of it, but what to say, that is how I do...

fullonline: We all know that all kind of weird stuff happen at psychedelic gatherings. Can you tell us something different/funny that you saw or happened to you in a party?

Prosper: What I'm going to tell to you is not so funny, but it's unusual... Few years ago in Bulgaria on some festival main stage was destroyed in the storm... And whole festival was moved to one small stage... This is what I got on my mind at first moment...
