As this interview shows, besides being pretty and sing the sexiest lyrics the psychedelic fans ever heard, she has a strong personality, a sharp sense of humor and knows what she wants.
Enjoy the show...
fullonline: Who is "Michele Adamson", where you are from and what is your musical background?
Michele Adamson: I was born in London and came out screaming! Music has been my friend, my guide, my mentor, teacher, lover, conspiracist...and most recently my job. I started singing and studying music at school and moved from the choir, through a jazz band to here. When i was a child i used to sing to comfort myself if i felt sad, as it was such a release of emotions i couldn't really get my head around. Then i learned to sing for joy. Now i sing for my supper. It's ace.
fullonline: - Are you married and/or have kids?
Michele Adamson: Is that an offer?
fullonline: - Can you keep a comfortable lifestyle working only as a psychedelic artist or a second job is needed?
Michele Adamson: I'm lucky enough to not have to go to the office 9-5, or even 4-7 for that matter but things can be 'toight' sometimes. The education i am getting from going with the flow is invaluable, but there can be a busy month of abundance followed by a nail biting period of creation gestation! Music is a very expensive habit and i have only just begun to kit out my studio. I am working on an equation where better toys=better sound=more gigs=better toys etc. Someone once told me i had better love what I am doing because the money is crap!
fullonline: What is on your CD Player right now?
Michele Adamson: The last few months i was listening to Mylo's *Destroy Rock and Roll* album. It's killer. Right now i am digging the new Nice Dreams comp, *Multiple Organisms* that is about to come out of Ibiza. It has tunes from Shanti, GMS, Federico Baltimore (Dado), Bluetech, Abakus, Shulman and more!
fullonline: Which one of your own music do you like the most? Does it have a special meaning to you?
Michele Adamson: Each one is very special to me for different reasons. Unfortunately i grow quickly addicted to new tunes i collaborate on and have a habit of killing them with over play on my ipod. Still, i move onto a new gem and then have some lovely surprises to come back to. I guess the most significant for me personally was the track *space baby* by gargoyles. It has a rare appearance of simon p as a musician as he leaves the programming to the quicksilver skill of Ott. It also has a vocal from Andrew Interchill's baby which really threw me as i didn't know where it came from and i thought it was some channelled information when i first heard it! I'm still not convinced that isn't and have a lingering feeling that it comes directly out of the Space DAT Recorder itself.
fullonline: What other music style do you listen to?
Michele Adamson: Recently i have been bitten by the electro bug. Ibiza is a great place for breaking down any kind of musical elitism and so i owe her for expanding my music collection tenfold! Working with violet vision opened my eyes to some wicked breaks and now here in london I'm being educated at every house i stop at with new styles and sub-genres springing up. The new gorillaz single that seems to be everywhere here is truly poptastic!
fullonline: What Psytrance Artists would you like to work with?
Michele Adamson: SUB6 again definitely for pure rocking joy, Astrix for clean cut polish, Koxbox (the one that got away...), Hallucinogen to raise the bar... The list of talent tweaking our gorbels today is endless. I guess i like to work with anyone i can find a vibe with, who either has a good sense of hummus or can teach me about the finer points of phenomenal production. as soon as it stops being fun the music tends to suck. Working with a live band is another matter altogether. That is such an organic fusion of everyone's combined energy and inspiration that it puts curls in my hair every time!
fullonline: Is there any equipment you think can help you produce better music?
Michele Adamson: There is so much equipment out there now to help you to produce a better sound but at the end of the day it's the people who make the music right?
fullonline: Do you prefer to play/sing/perform at parties at any specific time?
Michele Adamson: It depends on my mood and, of course, who else is playing at the party. A well thought out line up can make a party fly. i'd like to play at the beginning of the party because it asks a lot of listeners, to lay down so many vocals in the middle of the night when everyone is in full swing. Also then i could forget about work and the responsibility of influencing everyone's wibe and just wibble a little freaky thing. still, dawn is a magical time to play and anyone would be crazy to turn down the sunrise set. I'm sure my voice sounds better in UV tho innit ;)
fullonline: How do you write the Lyrics of your tracks? What is your favorite one?
Michele Adamson: I picked up a few writing tools on my post-graduate Creative Writing course at Sussex University. otherwise it's wings and prayers all the way. My most recent favorite is a track with Lunar Sound from mexico. It's out soon on Zulu Lounge and was heavily inspired by my trip into the desert. I was humbled when a friend showed me her deeply intelligent, provocative and wordy lyrics. in comparison i feel a bit like..
see the happy moron
doesn't give a damn
i wish i were a moron
golly gosh perhaps i am!
So i do what i can, but I'm under no delusion of greatness. if something really good comes out of me i tend to feel grateful rather than proud. I invite the message to pass through me when i write. Sometimes there's no message so i try to shut up.
fullonline: Some of the lyrics of your tracks have a sexual content. Do you think it makes the music more psychedelic? Please Comment.
Michele Adamson: It's possible that for some people it is more psychedelic and for others it's a pain in the butt. Sexuality is part of who i am and i am more than comfortable with that. Some people have specifically asked me to make a sexy or filthy vocal and i work with them on developing something they are happy with and i feel i can put my name to. Still, it's a very good question and I'm glad you asked. one of the reasons i enjoyed trance parties so much in the beginning was the way they seemed Asexual to me. It's kinda sexy and about sex but not with each others bodies, more like grabbing everyones minds and dragging them to the same place, kicking and screaming, in an orgy of understanding and expression.
fullonline: The idea of sexy songs comes right out of you, or usually another artist working together with you on a song ask for these lyrics?
Michele Adamson: Psysex with Michele was bound to be a piece of nasty and THEY asked for it. SUB6 had to tone me down. I have another track called *Look the other way* by Junk feat. Filthy Michele. I love it, but it's not nearly all of me.
fullonline: Does any of these lyrics really resembles you, your personality, or it's just for fun?
Michele Adamson: Some are more personal than pages of a diary, most of it i try to see from an outsiders view and offer double meanings and alternative interpretations. It's always fun. Even when it's hard or sad it frees me from my self.
fullonline: What do you prefer to sing: danceable psytrance tracks or chill songs?
Michele Adamson: I think i prefer to sing chill out, with trance i just want to dance and end with little idea where i am, out of breath and with the cue to come in upon me. I luvvit though. Wouldn't you?
fullonline: You worked at some non-psytrance projects, like Violet Vision and some other chill out songs. Do you think it's important for a professional to switch styles now and then?
Michele Adamson: I first heard of Violet Vision from Duvdev. He passed me a couple of tunes and rated them very highly. When i heard the track *Your Voice* with the vocals of Noa Lembersky adding such astonishing beauty and organic depth to the most exciting beats this side of funky town, i almost wept. I was lucky to meet the guys (Shay and Jonathan) in Israel, while i was staying with Erez and Hanny and we recorded *Melodious Prankstar* in the Infected studio. It was both a break from and a continuation of the new voice i had found with Infected. Being free to explore different genres either forever or until one feels like home, helps to keep it fresh and exciting for me. When the wibe is good with the people, the music reflects that. Many people have confused some tracks that should not be credited to me. There are some killer vocalists appearing on the scene each with their own style and cool. Check out Noa L, Hari Om, Isabelle and many other goddesses i have not yet had the pleasure of meeting and there is space enough for all to offer their take on things. It certainly adds colour! :)
fullonline: Tell me more about your work with Violet Vision.
Michele Adamson: It was the most fun you can have with your clothes on! It was challenging and at times i doubted myself. Those guys are incredibly talented and quick. If they weren't so darned funny i would have been really nervous to sing. going out to gigs with them and hearing the crystal intensity of their funk totally opened my ears to breaks and bliss. They seem to be a bit ahead of their time musically, but as people they are the most present, switched on, entertaining and cool guys. I heard some samples from the new album and have been crawling up the walls in anticipation ever since. p.s. - ladies, they are hot!
fullonline: How you feel about your work with J. Viewz?
Michele Adamson: My work with J.Viewz is very special. It covers an emotional time in my life when i had some things to get off my chest. His music is sunshine and gorgeousness and optimism. I try to go with the flow as it have carried me so far already. Noa has been working with him recently bringing blazing female energy at its most magnificent into the mix. I would love to sing with her and/or work with him again but with the sounds they make...I'm also just happy to sit back and enjoy :)
fullonline: Do you believe that working in projects outside the psytrance scene might result in some prejudice from your psytrance colleagues or fans?
Michele Adamson: None of my colleagues would put such restrictions on me. It has been said that i work with too many people and should find one producer and create my own style. It's a fair point but i feel i am still finding my style and knowing the layers of voice. When i can produce on my own or when i can join a band that plays regularly enough to survive that might manifest but until then i am having the best time of my life and trying to make the most of it. prejudice makes you ugly.
fullonline: If DJ Tiesto invited you to work with him on a song would you accept and be honored with the invitation?
Michele Adamson: LOL well i wouldn't say no before i heard the music. As for being honored, it's only really happened once and that was the first time.
fullonline: Being pop is being bad?
Michele Adamson: Pop - widely liked or appreciated. There is, of course, no accounting for people's taste.
fullonline: Is there any plan to release an solo debut album? When? What its going to be like?
Michele Adamson: Agitato will be releasing the album in june. the mastering is done, the artwork, ...the business side has been an extremely drawn out process. It's weird that a couple of the tracks were made so long ago now but at least the public mind tunnel has almost looped around far enough to be able to compute the VV track at the end. it's brutal! I'm really excited about finally seeing my dreams on plastic and cd silver. It has been a massive effort from my friends and me. I hope you enjoy it.
fullonline: What is your favorite psychoactive molecule?
Michele Adamson: I'm a sugar junkie. it's dangerous and I'm hooked.
fullonline: We all know that all kind of weird stuff happen at psychedelic gatherings. Can you tell us something different/funny that you saw or happened to you in a party?
Michele Adamson: I went to a party in Tel Aviv and it was so hot and deep underground that i thought i was in hell. The walls were lit and decorated with flaming red and the people were shouting and screaming. I was totally inappropriately dressed and went to the bar to find water. I couldn't say the hebrew word Ma'im and so walked away with a warm can of coke. The last thing my dry mouth wanted! A silver platter suddenly appeared in front of me laden with juicy, glistening fruit. I popped a couple of grapes in my mouth and was reminded of the story of Persephone going to hades and eating 6 pomegranate seeds and therefore having to return there for 6 months every year. I ate two grapes and so feel pulled to go back there at least twice a year. Just as i was really about to flip out i ran to the speaker, feeling that it was the one place i could be in familiar territory, and found raja ram giving it some in his inimitable way. Now it's my pleasure to return and get sweaty in the lost wonderland ;)
fullonline: Do you often receive "romantic" invitations from other artists or fans?
Michele Adamson: What goes on tour stays on tour! ;o)
Seriously though, is that an offer?;0P
fullonline: Any last comment, message and/or promotional link?
Michele Adamson: "Futility is futile. Money can't buy happiness, but poverty can't buy anything. Of all forms of caution, caution in love is the most fatal. So long and thanks for all the fish!"
fullonline: Thank you very much! Im a big fan, keep singing!?Respect!?
