Inner Action

Inner Action is a duo based on Spain that just released its debut album through Procyon Records, but promise to deliver even more psychedelic tunes on the dance floors around the world. They're releasing many tracks and collaborations on different labels and attending at parties in many continents. Together with CPU they created a project called The 3 Musketeers, which already released some tracks. Here they talk about their album, as well as their newest works, collaborations, musical background and influences. Enjoy!

fullonline: Who is "Inner Action", where you are from, why you choose this name to your project?

Inner Action Live Inner Action: Inner Action are Nitsan Shachaf & Roy engel, we both from a small village in north of Israel name Yokneam Moshava. In the last 4 years we lived in Barcelona, Spain. The name Inner Action we choose when we started it all in San Francisco, we were going through different names, till it hits us...

fullonline: Are you married and/or have kids?

Inner Action: We are not married and neither of us has kids for the moment. Of course one day it will happen.

fullonline: Can you keep a comfortable lifestyle working only as a psychedelic artist or a second job is needed?

Inner Action: We live from our music. WE are not rich, but we get by. Of course the word comfortable is varied between different people, for some it wont be enough, and for some it's plenty, so its all relative. But producing & performing music is our only job.

fullonline: What is on your CD Player right now?

Inner Action: The last 3D Vision compilation Digital Factory
, the new Mekkanikka album to be release, Xerox & Illumination, and some unreleased tracks from Synergy and CPU.

fullonline: What other music style do you listen to?

Inner Action: We enjoy many different types of music, from Spanish classic to reggae, rock, chill out (Abacus for example), house and all... We think there is good in all the styles.

fullonline: Which one of your own music do you like the most? Does it have a special meaning to you?

Inner Action: From our tracks we like the most: "Incorporated", "Future is now", "Liquid Hologram", "Galactic Wisdom" and "Private Party" (with CPU), and also "Inside" and a new track "Halloween"...

Inner Action Live fullonline: What Psytrance Artists would you like to work with?

Inner Action: We really enjoy from our collaboration with C.P.U., the 3 Musketeers, and working sometimes also with artists like Sirius Issness & Mekkanika (Barcelona crew), Puzzle and Bliss. We will be happy to collaborate with some other friends as Cristof (Absolum), Farid (Nomad aka DJ Mael),and more artists in Israel...

fullonline: Is there any equipment you think can help you produce better music?

Inner Action: As technology accelerates, there are many options for good sounding gear, but to be more specific for now we will be happy to have Apogee convertors , and some eventide fx unit.

fullonline: Do you prefer to play at parties at any specific time?

Inner Action: Our preferd time to play is the time in between the dark and light...
We think our music works well in both sides of the party.

fullonline: How do you choose the samples of your tracks? What is your favorite one?

Inner Action: For our voice samples we like to record ourselves, it gives an original touch to the tracks, and sometimes we take some samples from different sources... Our most known sample is "This is a private Party and you're not invited." But we pay good attention to this, and we like them all.

fullonline: I know both of you have a musical background. Do you think it's important and that it helps you when working on psychedelic music?

Inner Action: We think the fact that we have a musical background is very helpful in the production process & we are happy with what we have learned before producing... but what's important really is the outcome. You can be with no much musical background and still make a dance floor killer. But sure it helps. ;)
We both have instrumental background... Nitsan played classical music on the clarinet, and few years as a bass player in different bands, then sound engineering studies in London, started produce electronic music in 1997. Roy played classical music on the piano and after he learned and played drums with few rock bands, he started to produce trance already in 1998.

Inner Action - Liquid Hologram fullonline: You released your debut album on Procyon Records and it got nice reviews worldwide. Tell us about the process of making the album, what were your inspirations?

Inner Action: We made Liquid Hologram in like 4 months. We laid most of the tracks ideas in like 2 months+ and then worked on producing the album. We start working on the album with some ideas which evolved while we were preciede with the production. We are happy with the result of the album and we got great response from worldwide listeners.

fullonline: What are your future releases, and what are the labels you're currently working with? Any plan of releasing a second album?

Inner Action: You can find New Actions coming on the Planetary Nation from Planet BEN (Inner vs Bliss), also in Digital Distortion first compilation (new label from India). On next 3D Vision compilation by CPU (Inner Action vs Sirius Isness) and few more. ;)
We will be compiling for 3D Vision in the future. And hopefully 2nd album and more tracks out...

fullonline: Tell us about your project with CPU, The 3 Musketeers. How it started? What about it? first track on the 3D Vision compilation Digital Factory? Are you working on more tracks for this project? How do you see the differences between this project and the CPU and Inner Action projects?

Inner Action: We know Samy C.P.U for many years, he is a very good friend of us, so the collaboration with him is pretty natural.
The Musketeers project was born when we were working with Samy on "Private Party" for our album. We all were very happy with the result, and we launched the 3 Musketeers. We having another release which will come soon... we plan to make an album, but we don't have a date yet.
In general both projects got lots of similarity, in the sound and arrange of the tracks... At the same time we feel we create some new sound by mixing the 2 groups. For sure is a very interesting mix, and we are very happy with it.

Inner Action fullonline: You already released tracks on more than 10 different labels. How you choose the labels to submit the tracks? Or they ask you for tracks?

Inner Action: We like to work with many labels in different places around the world, most of the time we give the tracks according to availability of the tracks we have for the moment... we are trying to get the music spread as much as possible.

fullonline: What do you think about people sharing music through mp3 instead of buying it? What about DJs that play mp3 instead of full quality music?

Inner Action: In general, the fact that music became so accessible on the web created a big shock in the music industry. Cd sales have dropped dramatically in the last years and, of course, finally it affects the artists. In the other way, much more people can listen to music then before, So we guess it has its points too.
For playing mp3 in parties, we are not supporting it, because as producers, we believe that the music has to be played at its highest quality, just like the artist did it in the studio.

fullonline: How do you make your Live Acts? What equipment do you use in your Live Acts?

Inner Action: We use Live Ableton for our live sets. We perform with 2 power books and we use additional programs as Logic 7 and Cubase SX + additional hardware as Virus or a Nord Lead. In our Live Sets we like to play the best of all tracks, whether they're released or not.

Inner Action fullonline: You prefer to play a DJ set or a Live Act? Why?

Inner Action: We prefer to play live act because we enjoyed more the flow of it.
Live Acts has a different touch, but we also like to play DJ set. It's 2 different stories, in the Live Act you can bring the great peaks which is bit harder to create in a DJ set...

fullonline: In your DJ sets you usually play tracks from which other artists? The DJ sets from each of you are different?

Inner Action: In our DJ sets we like to play are own tracks and our friends tracks, CPU, Sirus Isnness, Bliss, Mekkanika, Puzzle and we also enjoy to play some other international artists music such as Xerox & Illumination, Astrix, Eskimo, Gataka, Silicon Sound...

fullonline: What makes a good party? You think decoration is important?

Inner Action: We think sound system, people, music, decoration and the location are important, they all have their part in making a good party. But what more important for us, is the sound system and the energy on the dance floor.

fullonline: What do you think people should do to make a better scene? Any visions about the future?

Inner Action: It's hard to see the future, but we hope the psy scene will expend to as many places and become more known and accepted as it's in some countries in the world right now.

Inner Action Logo fullonline: How long does it take for you to make a new track, from the ideas and inspirations to the dance floor? Any hint for a person who is starting making psytrance?

Inner Action: It really variable thing... sometimes we can make a track in few days, and sometimes it can take a month. But we normally work on several things at the same time.

For those who start make psy music we suggest them to have a powerful computer, and to try work on the plug-ins a bit more then what the presets has to offer...

fullonline: What is your favorite psychoactive molecule? (Do you enjoy using any kind of drugs at all?

Inner Action: We all had our past experiences, but we don't use any psychoactive drugs at all, not when we play and not in our homes. The music takes us higher...

fullonline: We all know that all kind of weird stuff happen at psychedelic gatherings. Can you tell us something different/funny that you saw or happened to you in a party?

Inner Action: Sure some funny things happen... but it's hard to remember right now...

fullonline: Any last comment, message and/or promotional link?

Inner Action: Hope to see you all "digging" the dance floor in some place around the world... Keep the beat going...
